P&C Standards, 2.0 based

3 Day Training Program

ACORD first introduced its ACORD XML for P&C standards in 2000.   Since then, additional lines and message types have greatly expanded the scope.  XML schemas have also become commonplace.  As a result, ACORD's membership decided to address sizing issues with the standard as well as incorporate new schema features unavailable when the standard was first introduced. This gives us a new standard, '2.0'.  It is in the process of being published.  Early versions of the schemas are available for implementation, and can be applied for both internal and external integration needs.  So take advantage of 2.0 early in the game.

Topics include:

 Overview of ACORD Process

 Overview of ACORD Documentation Structure

Advanced XML schema structures

        - Use of namespaces for extending ACORD

        - Use of inheritance 

        - Use of abstract classes

        - *Note: This course expects that you already have the

            knowledge specific of what is provided in Vallue's 

            XML Basics course. This is a required pre-requisite.

 Structural walkthrough of ACORD hierarchies:

        - Message typing

        - Parties (persons and organizations)

        - Building Associations

        - Various types of insurance covering: 

           Personal lines

           Commercial Lines

           Surety

Example mappings between ACORD forms and the XML standards

Data Type and Code List Constructs

Use of Attachments

Transaction support

         - Basic relationships of data needed

         - Quotes

         - Replacements, renewals, updates, reissues

         - Claims

         - Service provider initiated transactions

Architectural Features including:

         - Security

         - Base Services

         - Error Handling

Applying the standard for internal usage

        - Customized messages

        - Extending data structures

 

Prepare in advance:

Use your time wisely and provide the instructor with specific issues you are trying to work through.  When feasible, examples provided at least one week prior to the course will be worked into the use cases.

Target Audience:

This class targets business analysts and developers who are first looking at the ACORD XML for P&C Standard.   Please note this course focuses on the data structures within the specification and does not cover the XML language.  The XML Basics course offered by Vallue provides the XML syntax information.
